Attendance
To report a student absence, please call Tina Schuster
at 215-357-8810, ext. 199, before 8:30 a.m.Educators, students, and parents would agree that frequent absence from regular classroom learning experiences disrupts the continuity of the instructional process. It is important to note that absences and tardies are part of the official student permanent record and all transcripts. An excessive number of absences/tardies may reflect negatively on a student to potential colleges and employers.
Parents/Guardians are asked to call the main office (ext. 199) before 8:30 a.m. to report a student absent. If for any reason a student must call, she will speak only to the Dean of Students to explain her absence, and a follow-up call must be made by the parent/guardian at their earliest opportunity. A note is also required for the student's file. Either a signed note or an email sent to tschuster@vjmhs.org are acceptable.
A student must attend at least five (5) classes to be considered present for the day and to be eligible to participate in any school activity, including but not limited to practices, rehearsals, games, club meetings, dances, etc. Any student absent from school is not permitted to participate in afterschool events (games, practices, dances, etc.) on the day of her absence. If a student is absent on a Friday, the student may not be permitted to participate in any school activity held during that weekend.
Students who do not attend at least 95% of classes or who are tardy more than three (3) times in a quarter will be brought to the attention of the Dean of Students, and a parent conference may be scheduled.
For more detailed information on Villa's attendance policies, please see the Student Handbook.
