AWESOME THINGS HAPPENING AT VILLA |

Rowing Villa Joseph Marie Rowing's spring season is in full swing. This past Saturday Villa dominated Gwynedd Mercy and Villa Maria, sweeping the Varsity events — winning the Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8, Varsity 4, and 2nd Varsity 4. The Freshman 8 was 2nd in their race. On Sunday at the 3rd race of the Manny Flick series, Villa posted a win in the Varsity 8 and went 2nd in the 2nd 8 event; both were hard fought races in tough conditions. The freshmen were 3rd in their event. The Varsity 8 remains undefeated this spring. Up next for Villa Rowing is a trip to Mays Landing, NJ, on Saturday to compete against the NJ shore schools. Sunday is a big day; 5 (including Villa) of the top 10 Varsity 8s in the country will race each other. This is a great chance for our V8 to measure where we stand right now; we will all be racing each other again in May for championships. Softball Villa improves to 5-0 on the season with a gutsy win over Bensalem High School this past Monday. Last week, the team defeated: - Conwell-Egan HS (11-5)
- Defending AACA Champions and District 1 Runner Up, Gwynedd Mercy Academy (8-4): This was a big win that ended with a walk off grand slam by Ally Byrne '22. We had great pitching and a spectacular defense with VJM turning 4 double plays in the game.
- AACA League rival, Villa Maria Academy (9-3)
- AACA League rival, Mount Saint Joseph Academy (11-1)
Track The track team competed at the Haverford Invitational this past Saturday, and the following athletes qualified for the league championship with their performances: - Meredith Glunz '23 in the mile with a time of 5:40
- Cate Quinn '22 in the mile with a time of 5:53 and in the 2 mile with 12:39
- Liz Mellon '23 in the 400 meters with a time of 1:07
- Brianna Smith '22 in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 54 seconds

Each year, Villa students in the Social Studies Department participate in the National History Day research competition. This year, we were proud to send 49 students to the Regional Competition, participating in the Exhibit, Website, and Documentary categories. 12 projects and 19 students will advance to the State Competition in May. In order to qualify, these projects needed to place in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in their respective categories at the Bucks-Mont Regional Competition. Not only did we have an excellent showing, our school swept BOTH the Individual Website and Individual Exhibit categories! Congratulations to our students. |
|
