March 30, 2020 To the Class of 2021 and the Class of 2022, I wanted to take an opportunity to reach out regarding course selection. An adjustment to course selection occurred during the week our online learning began. We did not have the proper chance to dialogue with the students in class as originally anticipated. The major adjustment, that could impact your daughter's course selection, is listed below. Study Elective- Open to all upcoming Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors, the Study elective will be five days a week for one period per day. The course is worth 0 credits on the transcript. There is a maximum limit of one "Study elective" per year. (Courses that contain a built-in study such as AP sciences, chorus, and dance do not count towards this maximum limit.) A study may be used to complete schoolwork (both current and missed), do homework, speak with a staff member (Guidance, Transcend, Administration, an individual teacher, etc.), or utilize the chapel and lounge. If a Study occurs first block of the day or last block of the day, the student may come in late or leave early. Transportation is the sole responsibility of the student and the school will not obtain busing for the adjusted times. Should a student arrive late or leave early due to a study period, they must sign in/out as per school policy. If you wish to take a Study elective, simply email me and state which course you want removed for the study. Please be sure all course selection paperwork is either emailed or mailed to the school by April 13, 2020. All course descriptions can be found online at www.vjmhs.org/academics/courseselection. If you have any questions, please email me. Stay safe and stay healthy. Lauren Carr '00 Principal
