Student Spotlight Athletes Helping Athletes Over 20 girls in Villa's Athletes Helping Athletes club attended CR South's football fun night. They had a great time while helping individuals with special needs. It's always hard to tell who had a better time! We're very proud of you, girls!
All Catholic Band Tryouts On Saturday, Brenna Czekner, Ashley Rosica, Dakota McNally, Katie Campbell, Sabrina DiNofa, and Izzy Taylor travelled to Bishop Shanahan High School for All Catholic Band try-outs. Good luck, girls!
Happy Veterans Day On Monday, Ms. May's "Reel History" students celebrated the men and women who have served our country (or still are serving) by writing thank you cards for local veterans at all lunch periods and members of CSC made over 100 paracord bracelets for our troops. The bracelets will go to Operation Gratitude. To our veterans: We thank you, salute you, and honor you for your service and for inspiring us to be brave and honest.
Voice of Democracy Winner Congratulations to Allison DeFriece '22 whose Voice of Democracy essay has been selected as the first place winner, representing VFW Post 6393 Yardley Lower Makefield. Allison will be celebrated at Patriots Pen & Voice of Democracy dinner, which will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2020. Her essay will be sent to District 8 where she will compete against other high school students from Bucks & Lehigh Counties. Outstanding job and congratulations again!

In the Classroom National French Week This past week, students from the French National Honors Society celebrated "National French Week" by doing the prayer "en français" and sharing fun facts about words commonly used in English that are of French origin.
Students in French 4h and AP French joined "ensemble" for une fête as a culminating celebration of francophone language and culture. We had "fromage" and "Fun French Facts" among other activities.
Forensic Science lab Students in Mrs. Leaper's Forensic Science class tested the physical and chemical properties of over-the-counter drug samples and used their results to analyze an unknown sample. This is part of a unit on drugs, alcohol, and toxicology.

Athletics News & Notes Becky Flynn Hensel '99, Athletic Director | VJMAthletics@vjmhs.org Cross Country Meredith Glunz finished 20th out of 218 runners at the PIAA cross country AA State championships! Congratulations, Meredith!
Rowing Villa Rowing completed its season racing last weekend at the Frostbite Regatta and the Braxton Regatta. The Varsity 8 finished 2nd on Saturday and 7th on Sunday. The 2nd 8 posted 3rd place and 4th place finishes. Villa also raced the JV 4 both days, finishing 9th and 15th, and the Freshmen posted 3rd and 4th place finishes. The season ended with some great racing against 50 other schools. Villa Rowing will now take a break and resume training after Thanksgiving.

Sailing Congratulations to the sailing team! They finished 2nd place in the Main Line Scholastic Sailing Association this fall. The team completed against Conestoga, Malvern Prep, Academy of Notre Dame, Sanford School, Villa Maria Academy, Lower Merion and Harriton High Schools.
If you are in interested in participating in spring or fall sailing, please contact parent coordinator Lisa Malloy Smith for details. The girls sail in two-person boats and do not need experience.
Soccer The soccer team defeated Berwick (3-0) on Saturday and Archbishop Ryan (2-0) on Tuesday to advance to the PIAA 3A State Championship in Hershey this Saturday at 4 p.m. vs. Mars Area High School.
Information for the Championship Game FAN BUS: The Villa fan bus is $25, which covers the bus and entrance fee into the game. The bus will depart Villa at 1:15 p.m. and will return immediately following the game. Students are encouraged to bring extra money for concessions at the game or a quick rest stop on the way home. WATCH FROM HOME: The game will be available live on the PCN cable channel and live streamed (for a fee) using the PCN Select App. The local channels for PCN are: Comcast - channel 186, Verizon Fios - channel 9.

Named for a 2009 Villa graduate who was killed by a drunk driver in 2014, this basketball showcase tournament will feature twelve varsity CYO teams from the Bucks County area, as well as numerous Villa Alumnae who will gather for an Alumnae basketball game. Proceeds will benefit the establishment of a scholarship for Villa Joseph Marie High School. Please join us at this event, as we are confident that Kaitlin's memory, and the example of selflessness she portrayed, will be preserved and awarded through this new scholarship. Bucks County Community College's Center for Workforce Development was recently awarded the PASmart Grant through the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. We are delighted to announce that through the PASmart Grant Bucks' Metalwork and Industrial Maintenance Programs have been formally recognized as Pre-Apprenticeship Programs by the Office of Apprenticeship and Training at the Department of Labor & Industry. Using PASmart grant funding, Bucks will be expanding its Industrial Maintenance Pre-Apprenticeship Program, for this one time to offer FREE training to high school students and young adults, ages 18-24. The course will be modified to take place over 16 weeks from 1:00pm – 5:00pm to accommodate students' schedules during their senior year. See the attached flyer for more information.
The National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in Washington, DC has MANY scholarships available to high school seniors. The awards range from $2,000 to $5,000. New this year, all applications for the National Scholarships are submitted online. DEADLINE for DAR NATIONAL scholarships: February 15, 2020. There will be music, singing, poetry readings, games, and much more. There will also be delicious snacks and blue and gold frappacinos from Starbucks.
