Women’s Track Performs Well at CC Championship

Gettysburg athletes move into programs all-time list

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's track and field team saw a handful of athlete march into the programs all-time list on the opening day of the Centennial Conference Indoor track & Field Championship on Saturday, which is hosted at Franklin & Marshall College.

  • Kat Mangione '22 (Doylestown, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie)  
    • Shot Put (Pentathlon) – (35-03.75 – 10th in program history)
  • Julia Piness '23 (Chatham, N.J./Chatham)
    • 60-Meter Dash – Prelims (8.47 – Sixth in program history)
    • 60-Meter Hurdles – Prelims (9.91 Third in program history)
  • Abigail Rec '20 (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central)
    • 60-Meter Hurdles – Prelims (10.08 – Sixth in program history)
Meet Highlights
  • Gettysburg finished sixth in the 4x200-meter relay. The team of Lilian Morrell (Frederick, Md./Urbana), Emily Wielk (West Haven, Conn./Sacred Heart), Olivia Farina (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug), and Rec posted a time of 1:55.44.
  • The Bullet distance medley relay squad of sophomore Amy Cantrell (Hailey, Idaho/Wood river), senior Leah Hill (Media, Pa./Penncrest), sophomore Georgia Larzelere (Medford, N.J./Shawnee), and junior Michelle O'Malley (Locust, N.J./Red Banks Catholic) claimed eighth with a 13:53.10 showing.
  • In the weight throw, sophomores Jessica Alessi (Nassau, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) and Diana Bianco Riley (Seekonk, Mass./St. Mary Academy Bay View) finished ninth (39-08.75) and 10th (39-05.25), respectively.
  • In the pentathlon, Mangione captured first in the shot put (35-03.75), which pushes her to 10th all-time, seventh in the long jump (13-02.00), eighth in the 800-meter run (3:17.23), 60-meter hurdles (12.11), and high jump (4-00.75). She finished with a total of 1,829 points to take eighth in the event.
  • Freshman Julia Piness (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) set a new personal-record in the 60-meter dash, clocking 8.47 in the preliminaries to move her to a tie for sixth in program history. She also cracked the indoor top-10 list in the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries with a 9.91 mark, finishing fifth and moving on to the finals on Sunday, which puts her third all-time.
  • Rec also climbed the all-time ladder to sixth in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking 10.08 in the preliminaries, placing seventh and advancing to the finals on Sunday.
  • Gettysburg is currently eighth out of nine teams in the standings with Johns Hopkins University in the lead with 56 points.

The rest of the meet will conclude on Sunday back at 11 a.m. at Franklin & Marshall.
