Briana Hocker fired a 6-over 78 to earn low-medalist honors and lead Alvernia University to a first place finish in the division III field at the Golden Wolves home invitational on Tuesday at LedgeRock Golf Club.
Hocker started her round on the par 3 14th with a birdie, but went bogey-bogey-double over the next three holes. Facing the 559 yard par 5 18th, Hocker launched a drive straight down the middle of the fairway. After placing a perfect a layup shot, Hocker stuck her third shot just a few feet from the pin on the 18th green. She then sunk the birdie putt to get a stroke back before making the turn onto one. The junior would go bogey-bogey over the next four holes before making par on the par 4 3rd. She bogey the par 4 fourth before recovering with a par on the 5th. Hocker then was even over the next three holes, with a birdie on the par 4 6th. She finished off her round with four straight pars from the 10th-13th holes. She finished 6-over to earn her first collegiate low medalist honors.
Finishing in second for Alvernia and fourth overall was sophomore
Yupha Muzyka with a round of 82. Muzyka started her round with a bogey on the par 4 15th, and picked up her first par of the day on the difficult par 4 17th. After going bogey-bogey on 18 and 1, Muzyka went par-par-birdie on the 2nd - 4th holes. She finished gave the shot back on the par 4 fifth, but recovered for a par on the sixth. The junior would go on to par four over her final seven holes.
Finishing in third for the Golden Wolves at t-15th was sophomore
Maggie Arnold with a round of 97. Arnold's round was highlighted by pars on the par 4 4th and on the par 3 14th.
Rounding out the counting scores for Alvernia was freshman
Davis Ann Boyd. Boyd finished with a round of 106. The freshman had three pars on her round, with back-to-back pars on holes five and six. She also made par on her opening hole of the day, the par 5 13th.
Tory Sarge finished as Alvernia's fifth player. The freshman shot a 134 and had a par on the par 4 5th.
The Golden Wolves finished with a team score of 363 and was first amongst Division III teams. West Chester University took home Division II honors with a team score of 344.
Alvernia returns to action on October 19th with a dual match against Eastern University at Golden Oaks Golf Club, the site of the 2020 MAC Women's Golf Championship.
