G.O.A.L.: Go Out And Lead (Rising Grades 5-7)

G.O.A.L. is a week-long summer program for girls who strive to become leaders among their peers. The course will include public speaking and team-building exercises, enhancing critical skills for any leadership position in school, on a team, or in the community. Students will be encouraged to consider various types of leadership and various roles for student-leaders. G.O.A.L. will inspire and educate young student leaders.

Portfolio-Building for Young Artists (Rising Grades 7-9)

July 8, 2019 - July 18, 2019
(No camp on Fridays)
1 pm to 4 pm
For girls entering grades 7-9
Cost: $350

This two-week program introduces young artists entering grades 7-9 to the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. Students will use these visual tools in creating their own works of art. Working from observation and imagination, students will develop critical thinking skills as they study still life drawings & painting, printmaking, and collage. An emphasis will be placed on portfolio building and student work will be individually reviewed. The course will culminate with each student preparing their pieces for a portfolio presentation of their best works on the last day of class. Students applying for high school art scholarships will benefit greatly from this course. Each student will leave with a portfolio to continue building in the future. Portfolios will be provided.

Portfolio-Building: Drawing and Painting the Landscape (Rising Grades 10-12)

July 8, 2019 - July 18, 2019
(No camp on Fridays)
9 am to 12 pm
For girls entering grades 10-12
Cost: $350


Learn the techniques of landscape drawing and painting, working directly from observation. Class time will be spent drawing and painting (with watercolor and oils) from the landscape on site, weather permitting. Alternate time will be spent working indoors from a garden still life. Perspective will be covered, with an emphasis on color. From both observation and imagination, students will develop critical thinking skills, as they study still life drawing and painting, printmaking, and collage. The course will culminate with a classroom show of the students’ work following the last day of class. All materials provided.

The EDGE (Rising Grades 7-8)

Early bird registration before April 25: $450

Two-week preparatory program for students interested in applying to Catholic high schools. This course focuses on HSPT preparation, (English and math), resume writing, and interview skills. Strategies and skills learned at the EDGE will benefit students on entrance exams and all future standardized tests. It’s a fun and educational program whether your student is looking for a refresher or an improvement in scores.

Creative Arts & You (Rising Grades 7-9)

For girls entering grades 7–9
Cost: $225

Surprise yourself with how creative you can be with paint, tie-dye, photos, jewelry-making, and more! No previous art experience needed. Bring a passion for self-expression, fun, and color! Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first- served basis.

Media Camp (Rising Grades 5-8)

Media camp is a great introduction into Villa's Media and Journalism class. Campers will learn about how video and audio content is created by working on projects that utilize camera angles, visual cuts, audio and visual editing and more. The program is great for girls who want to create exceptional content for school projects and social media. Laptops will be provided.

F.I.R.S.T.: Freshmen Involved in Reflective Service Together (Rising Grade 9)

For enrolled incoming Villa Freshmen

A service program for incoming Freshmen designed to introduce new students to Campus Ministry. On-campus and on-site service opportunities will give young students the chance to become active members of Villa’s prolific community service program and to serve as service leaders among their peers.

C.R.A.M.: Critical Reading And Math (Rising Grades 9-10)

Free for students enrolled in the Transcend Program

Critical Reading
Students will learn the basics of high-school essay composition and writing. Activities include pre-test, final evaluation with individual interview, grammar games, and essay/ introduction/thesis modeling. Students will be introduced to analysis techniques necessary for high school-level reading and interpretation.

Math

This program will engage participants in a wide variety of unique and interesting problems that are not always posed in a standard math class, and teach students numerous general problem- solving strategies that will give them the means to tackle difficult problems. Unlike a traditional math course, this program focuses more on the “how” of solving problems, giving students the confidence to think critically, a skill that transcends the classroom.

As an introduction to Villa’s music program, the Instrumental Music Camp is for all students interested in playing an instrument AND joining the Villa Band and /or Orchestra. Experienced and non- experienced students are welcome. An instrument can be provided through the instructor, if needed.

Philadelphia Neighborhood Immersion Experience (Rising Grades 10-12)

Students will serve at a variety of inner-city Philadelphia sites, which tend to the needs of the city’s most vulnerable populations. Sites may include Our Lady of Fatima, Twining Village, SPIN and Aid for Friends.

APPortunity Week (Rising Grade 12)

Rising Seniors are invited to participate in this one-week intensive preparation program for the upcoming college admissions season. Our guidance counselors, with the help of admissions specialists, will prepare students for college applications, interview, and essay components. Students will create their Common Application account and will be advised on its process. Students will develop a master schedule for their intended schools, which will include important due dates, required submissions, standardized test policies, financial aid deadlines, and on-campus opportunities. Don’t miss this APPortunity to alleviate the often-stressful process of organizing and readying college apps!

Summer Scholars (Rising Grades 9-12)

Are you a student who will be enrolled in an AP-level class this coming school year? Summer Scholars Camp is a two-week crash course on the skills needed to succeed in upper level courses at Villa, college, and beyond. The first week is designed to introduce needed skills in a hands-on environment through the use of maps, political cartoons, artifacts, data sets, and documents. The second week uses the same topics to develop critical application of the skills learned in the previous week.

Students will leave the camp ready to take on challenging courses and with resources to assist them going forward.
