G.O.A.L. is a week-long summer program for rising 5th- through 7th-grade girls who strive to become leaders among their peers. The course will include public speaking and team-building exercises, enhancing critical skills for any leadership position in school, on a team, or in the community. Students will be encouraged to consider various types of leadership and various roles for student-leaders. Led by members of Villa’s Campus Ministry Department, G.O.A.L. will inspire and educate young student leaders.

Portfolio-Building for Young Artists (Rising Grades 6-9)

Portfolio-Building For Young Artists: Grades 6-9

Cost: $325

This two-week program introduces young artists entering grades 6-9 to the elements of art, principals of design and importance of portfolio-building. Students will learn about and apply these visual tools while creating their own works of art. Taught by a classically trained artist and Villa teacher (MFA), this course will offer students 1-on-1 instruction. Working from both observation and imagination, students will develop critical thinking skills, studying still life drawing and painting, printmaking and collage. Students applying for high school art scholarships will benefit greatly from this course. The course will culminate with a classroom show of the students work following the last day of class.

Two-week preparatory program for students interested in applying to Catholic high schools. This course focuses on HSPT preparation, resume writing, and interview skills. Strategies and skills learned at the EDGE will benefit students on entrance exams and all future standardized tests. It's a fun and educational program whether your student is looking for a refresher or a drastic improvement in scores. Limited to 45 students.

This week-long program is a great way to broaden your knowledge base, explore Villa, boost your self-confidence and powers of persuasion -- all while making new friends and having fun! Come to Villa to train with our Mock Trial coaches, including actual trial attorneys, and of our own Mock Trial Team members! Learn effective trial advocacy techniques and improve your public speaking skills. To keep our week light and fun, we will concentrate on one fairy tale as the basis of our criminal trial. This part acting/part courtroom experience will be hilariously enjoyable while at the same time effectual in teaching courtroom procedure and protocol.

Cost: $200 - One Week - Choose Critical Reading OR Math
Cost: $325 - Two Weeks - Includes Critical Reading AND Math
(Free for students enrolled in the Transcend Program)

Students will learn the basics of high-school essay composition and writing. Activities include pre-test, final evaluation with individual interview, audio/visual materials, "Jeopardy" grammar games, and essay/intro/thesis modeling. Students will be introduced to analysis techniques necessary for high school-level reading and interpretation. Readings will be works of poetry, short prose, long prose, and plays. This program will engage participants in a wide variety of unique and interesting problems that aren't always posed in a standard math class, and teach students numerous general problem-solving strategies that will give them the means to tackle difficult problems. Unlike a traditional math course, this program focuses more on the "how" of solving problems, giving students the confidence to think critically, a skill that transcends the classroom.

Students will continue to pursue the mastery of high-school essay composition and writing. The areas of study include recognition of problematic grammatical errors, maturity of sentence structure, paragraph development, thesis development, proper development of the introduction, and the importance of proof and details. Students will continue to develop analysis techniques necessary for high school-level reading and interpretation. Readings will include works of short nonfiction passages. This program also will review basic algebra skills from Algebra I and II necessary for success in upperclassman math courses at Villa including, but not limited to, linear equations and functions, factoring and solving quadratic equations, and data analysis. Numerous general problem-solving strategies also will be presented. Standardized test review also will be emphasized.

Rising Seniors are invited to participate in this one-week intensive preparation program for the upcoming college admissions season. Our guidance counselors, with the help of admissions specialists, will prepare students for college applications, interview, and essay components. Students will create their Common Application account and will be advised on its process. Students will develop a master schedule for their intended schools, which will include important due dates, required submissions, standardized test policies, financial aid deadlines, and on-campus opportunities. Don’t miss this APPortunity to alleviate the often-stressful process of organizing and readying college apps!
