Curriculum & Grading

Each course at Villa Joseph Marie is designated to one of the following categories:

College-Preparatory Courses (Academic)
These courses are basic to any student wishing to be accepted into a four-year college/university program. Freshmen and Sophomores are assigned to these college-preparatory classes.

Honors Courses
These courses are accelerated classes that provide more in-depth study. More independent work is required for students in these classes. Admission is by administration, departmental, and guidance recommendation, and by dialogue with students and parents.

Advanced Placement Courses
Advanced Placement courses, offered to Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors, replicate the scope and depth of college courses. Students enrolled in AP courses must take the AP Examination in their field of study at the conclusion of the course.

Academic Requirements

A minimum of 24 credits is required for graduation. The following courses must be included: 4 units of Theology; 4 units of English; 3 units of Social Sciences; 3 units of Mathematics; 3 units of Science; 2 units of Foreign Language; 1 unit of Art/Music Appreciation. A unit is equal to one credit.

High Honors: GPA of 4.1 & above (excluded if one grade equals C+ or lower)
Honors: GPA of 3.85 to 4.09 (excluded if one grade equals C+ or lower)
